The Scorecard: Weighing Pros vs. Cons

Official cat passport ID page — the verdict is in

Five posts in, let's put everything side by side.

The Pros The Cons
✓ Real enrichment for confident cats ✗ Wrong-temperament cats will be stressed
✓ Exercise & deeper bonding ✗ Stress signs are subtle; needs vigilance
✓ No boarding, no sitter, no guilt ✗ Escape risk in unfamiliar terrain
✓ A welcoming, growing community ✗ Parasites, predators, unsafe water
✓ Builds feline confidence over time ✗ Weather sensitivity; breed limits
✓ Makes every trip a better story ✗ More gear, planning & responsibility

Now look at that right-hand column again. Notice something? Almost every con is manageable. Temperament is discovered through low-stakes testing. Escapes are prevented by harnesses, secure tents, microchips, and trackers. Parasites are handled by vet-recommended preventives and post-trip tick checks. Water risk disappears when you pack your own. Weather is a scheduling choice. Gear is a one-time purchase.

The pros, on the other hand, are not manageable — they are only experienceable. No amount of reading produces the bond, the enrichment, or the memory. That asymmetry is the entire argument of the next two posts.
